About This Site
This site was created after finding a shoe box full of medals, photographs, birth, death & marriage certificates etc following the death of my stepfather Ray. Finding this box has led me to create a family tree of 2,500 + descendants (with some surprises) and uncover much of my family's military history.
The main focus of the military history research was finding more about my father, William John Goodbody, who was killed eight days before I was born in March 1945, my Grandfather William Alfred Goodbody who was with the Royal Dragoons for 23 years as a career soldier and Raymond Stanley Goodbody who was my uncle and later my stepfather.
I originally included nine of my closest relatives, who I knew extremely well. Between them they contributed to nearly fifty years of military service over a fifty year period. It cannot be under estimated how difficult it was for them in the Theatre of War and for their relatives at home. I am currently rearching other relatives, but this will be more difficult as only the next of kin can obtain their military records. This has extended to time period to 75 years.
