SA Sleap (POW)
Sidney was in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps in WW2. The Battle of Hong Kong lasted from the 8th December 1941 until the fall on 25th December 1941. Japanese Index Card of Allied Prisoners of War show he was captured on the 16th December. All prisoners were released when the colony was liberated in August 1945. His actual release date was 2nd September 1945. He was a prisoner at Shamshuipo camp for three years & nine months and a the age of 55 it must have been difficult for him. Conditions at the POW camps were described as "severe and included malnutrition, disease, and forced labour". He survived and lived until he was 71 in 1958.
